Music is one of the most powerful forces in human life. It reaches past arguments and touches the emotions directly. It can calm an anxious mind, strengthen a weary heart, or stir up old memories and old loyalties. In gang culture and street life, music is often used to build identity, loyalty, and pride. It becomes the soundtrack of a whole way of thinking. That is why music must be addressed seriously in any effort to help someone break free.
Music Feeds Belief
Every song carries a message. Even when the beat is attractive, the lyrics are planting ideas. Some music tells a person that money, power, and respect come through violence. Some music treats women as objects, treats enemies as disposable, and treats death as meaningless. When a person listens to that message repeatedly, it shapes what feels normal and what feels true.
The B.E.A.R. framework helps us see this clearly. Beliefs produce emotions, emotions drive actions, and actions produce results. Music feeds the belief level. It tells the listener, “This is who you are,” “This is what matters,” and “This is how you should respond.” If the music is feeding lies, the whole cycle stays broken no matter how much a person wants to change.
You Cannot Keep the Same Soundtrack
A common mistake in recovery is trying to build a new life while keeping the old playlist. The same music that celebrated the old lifestyle keeps calling the person back to the old identity. It stirs up old emotions, old fantasies, and old associations. The mind may want to move forward, but the soundtrack is pulling it backward.
Transformation requires a new soundtrack. That does not mean every song has to be a hymn. It means the music a person chooses should support the life they are trying to build. It should remind them of truth, lift their eyes toward hope, and reinforce the identity they are becoming in Christ.
The Hidden Power of Music
Dr. Roy H. Williams, an advertising consultant to many Fortune 500 companies, presents the following from his research.
Williams presents the brain in two parts: the left-brain as the skeptic which is our conscious state, the part of the brain that comprehends the words you are reading right now. Our right side, which is our subconscious, records everything we hear and see twenty-four hours a day, even if we are unaware. The right-brain operates like a twenty-four hour audio and video recorder.
He talks about the powerful effects of music. He states that music has the power to bypass the left hemisphere of the brain, which is our skeptic and go directly into the right hemisphere of the brain, which in turn during our sleep cycle or trance state (alpha state) takes the message, and uploads it back to the left hemisphere which influences our beliefs, emotions and behaviors, without the individual's permission.
For example, a person says they listen to a “gangsta rap” song just for the beat, though they believe they are blocking the message consciously with their left brain, their right brain is recording everything, even any backward masked messages.
Our right brain is so intelligent, that it will take the message, even backwards and transfer it back to our left-brain during our sleep cycle or alpha state (trance state), which will then influence our beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. Advertisers and the psychology industry have been utilizing music for years by discretely hiding latent messages within the music, in order to direct their message into peoples' subconscious without them realizing it.
There are many masonic/witchcraft secret societies within the music industry who perform ancient demonic rituals to summon the spiritual power of music for talent, wealth, fame, power and influence. There are various spirits/demons that are associated with the majority of the mainstream music.
BackMasking in Music & Why is it so Dangerous?
Backward masking is when a song is played backwards and an audible verbal message is revealed. Many artists have backward masking in their songs, and I truly believe many don't even know it, until it's revealed to them even though it is their own voice saying the message. Let me explain.
In backward masked songs (words played backwards), which are being used more and more by artists who practice in the dark arts of the occult. It has been scientifically proven that though the backmasked lyrics enters the left brain to the right brain backwards, when it enters the right brain, it will by default be mirrored in reverse, and during the sleep cycle enter back into the left brain, having the individual believe and understand the messages, without them realizing their believing and understanding the messages. There is no skeptic guard in place in the right brain. Therefore, these messages (beliefs) from the lyrics after being reinforced over a period of time, can be embedded into an individual's character.
Backward masked messaging became popular through the Aliester Crowley teachings, which Crowley coded backward masking as “The Law of Reversal.” Crowley a satanist, coined by the Britain press as the most “wickedest man on earth.” Stated the following about the law of reversal:
Crowley obviously the guru of modern Satanism (and mentor of many rock groups) taught in his magick handbook, Magick in Theory and Practice, for the occultist, It's known as “the law of reversal” “. . . let him learn to write backwards. . .” In many Satanic churches they will recite the Lords prayer but they will start with “Amen” and say “Nema” and then recite the whole prayer backwards.
“. . .train himself to think BACKWARDS by external means, as set forth here following. (a) Let him learn to write BACKWARDS. . . (b) Let him learn to walk BACKWARDS. . . (c) Let him. . . listen to phonograph records REVERSED (d) Let him practise speaking BACKWARDS. . . (e) Let him learn to read BACKWARDS. . .” (Crowley, Aleister. Magick: Liber ABA, book four, 1994 Ordo Templi Orientis edition, p. 639)

Rap artist Jay Z, His song Lucifer in the morning back masked says…, “666, murder, murder Jesus.”
There is a very dark spiritual side to the music industry. There are rituals involving the spiritual summoning of demons by vocalist and musicians to obtain rhythms, beats and lyrics for songs to glorify the kingdom of darkness, in exchange for earthly wealth, power and fame.
Music as a Tool for Renewal
Music can also be used as a positive tool. Worship music, in particular, directs the heart toward God. It reminds a person that they are not alone, that their past does not define them, and that God has a future for them. Music can be played during prayer, during study, during exercise, or during hard moments when temptation feels close.
In counseling, music can open conversations that words cannot. A song may express pain, regret, longing, or hope in a way the counselee has not been able to articulate. The wise counselor listens to what the music reveals and then points the person toward truth.
Guarding the Soundtrack
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” What flows into the heart and mind matters. Music is one of those streams. A person who is serious about breaking free must become intentional about what they allow into their ears, their mind, and their spirit.
This does not mean living in fear of every song. It means being honest about influence. It means asking: Does this music strengthen my new life or weaken it? Does it point me toward Christ or toward the old life? Does it produce peace or stir up destructive emotion? Those questions turn music from a passive habit into an active choice.
